First, let me explain myself. I have a desk job. I use a computer for, pretty much, the ENTIRE day – oftentimes, only leaving for short bathroom breaks and vending machine visits. Compound this with about four weeks of exhausting, stressful and mind-numbing work and you get a girl who doesn’t even want to be in the same room as a computer when the work day is over. Much to my disappointment, poor Drewunarmed has been neglected. But I’m happy to report that I’m excited to post again!
Well, the word of the month is “Travel.” Starting a couple of weeks ago and through the next three weeks or so, we (Nathan, myself and Drew or some combination of us three) will be travelling to:
- French Lick, IN
- St. Louis, MO (2x)
- Nashville, TN
- Louisville, KY
- New Haven, KY
- Crested Butte, CO
Add all of the miles up and you get 4,222 miles!
So, you may ask, “Why, Janel, why? Why would you travel this 4,222 miles when gas is nearly $4/gallon?” And my answer would be a defeated slump of shoulders and a pouted lip. Let me explain further.
First, we went to French Lick a couple of weekends ago to visit the Big Splash indoor water park. Drew loves to swim and it was a spontaneous decision to go. We had a great time and I highly recommend anybody to go.
Next, we finally got our appointment in Saint Louis Children’s Hospital set up for Drew to see the orthopaedic doctor per instructions from our Vanderbilt doctor. I learned a little too late that the St. Louis Dr. wanted to see Drew at the Shriner’s in St. Louis and not the Children’s and, as luck would have it, would be unable to keep the original appointment. So, a non-refundable hotel reservation and an altered itinerary later, we decide to spend the weekend sightseeing. This also means, by extension, that we now must go to St. Louis twice. I’ll post more about our St. Louis trip later.
As is typical, Drew has a doctor’s appointment in Nashville this month, actually two. We were extremely lucky as Vanderbilt managed to consolidate what previously would have been two separate trips into one trip by scheduling the two appointments on the same day.
Also, in June, Nathan and I will be taking Drew to a Thomas the Train event in New Haven, KY. Gotta love them trains!
I’m going to Louisville for a baby shower and taking Drew with me. And, I’m going to Colorado on business in June. Granted, I’m not taking Drew on this trip, but I included this trip just to secure your sympathy. Gas is $4/gall after all!! The Colorado trip offers some relief as I will be flying and the trip isn’t financed by me!
So, to date we have completed 578 miles of our 4,222 mile trip leaving us with 3,644 miles to go!
